3rd Annual Dance for Autism

I was honored to photograph this eye opening event last Friday at Melody Club. I witnessed hundreds of performers, donors, family members and friends gathered around for the same reason, to raise money for Dance for Autism; and without a doubt they were able to raise over $4,300 for The Music Therapy Center of Houston
The dance performers were amazingly graceful, the desserts from Sweet Pea's Delights were heavenly and most of all we all had an absolute blast! Thank you all for allowing me the pleasure to see Houstonian's come together to help find a cure for Autism!

According to Autism Speaks, did you know ...
  • Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys
  • Autism prevalence figures are growing
  • More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
  • Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
  • Autism costs the nation $126 billion per year
  • Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
  • Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
  • There is no medical detection or cure for autism
Autism appears to have its roots in very early brain development. However, the most obvious signs of autism and symptoms of autism tend to emerge between 2 and 3 years of age.

S.T.A.N.D. Houston Salsa Social

About 6 months ago I signed up for a salsa class and to my surprise it instantly became an addiction, just like photography did. I noticed that when I dance, nothing in the whole wide world matters. All my fears, problems and anxieties just disappear. I have gradually surpassed milestones in the last few months by moving up dance levels but the biggest achievement so far was my successful audition into Salsa Eddy's Student Dance Team. I have had my first two 2-hour practices and it's such an amazing feeling to be apart of a team where people share your same love for dancing.

Through this journey I have met some really incredible people and last Friday I was honored to photograph the amazing event for S.T.A.N.D. Houston at Houston Dance Factory. This Salsa Social fundraiser was to benefit the Houston Area Women's Center and 100% of proceeds went directly to the organization to help end domestic and sexual violence. I want to give a special thanks to Renee Deynes and Monica Hernandez for organizing this life changing event for those that suffer abuse.

Not only was this was an incredible night but also a wake up call for me because I realized that I could accomplish my two favorite activities at the same time, photography and dance. Not to mention all for a great, heartfelt cause. Thank you S.T.A.N.D. Houston for having Perfectly Imperfect Designs  photograph and be apart of your fantastic event!
